This lecture provides a quick overview for Matlab or Octave. Matlab and Octave both are software tools for scientific computations. Matlab is proprietary software package and Octave is open source which can be downloaded from gnu open source project page. Some syntax of Octave may not be compatible with Matlab but mostly matlab code is compatible in Octave. The basic idea of programming in Octave and Matlab is same.
This lecture discussed basic programming fundamentals in Matlab and Octave, how the matrices computation are done, how can one write functions in matlab, loop statements, conditional statements, efficient programming tips in Matlab and basic matrix operations. A live example of plotting and writing code in Octave is discussed.
